History & Mission

The Alliance of Coastal Marin Villages, or ACMV, was established in 2017 with the help of our District 4 Supervisor and State Senator as a forum for addressing issues shared by all the villages in coastal West Marin.  By bringing together representatives nominated by each of our respective village associations or other responsible bodies, we act as an efficient nexus for communications and problem solving between Marin County, the State of California, and West Marin's villagers.

Our mission:  To identify, address and communicate on relevant and common issues, and needs of the West Marin Coastal villages to County, State and Federal agencies and Marin communities

Our Process

01. Representative Nomination

02. How We Work Together

03. Communication and Advocacy

Residents of each village nominate qualified individual(s) through their Village Association, Public Utility, and/or other formal associations to serve as ACMV representatives.   Representatives commit to serve as a primary point of communication with each of the other nine villages, and with County and State government for all-village matters.

Representatives discuss issues with their associations and present them to the Alliance.  For issues that affect villages in the region, the Alliance can decide to pursue them if there is a consensus of all village representatives and no objection by any.

ACMV representatives meet together -  and regularly with the District 4 Supervisor and/or staff - to find common solutions for or opportunities in shared issues.  ACMV reps act both as a conduit for Marin County to efficiently disseminate information to all the coastal villages,  and on consensual issues in turn advocate with Marin County and/or  the State of California.

Sample Issues

While not a comprehensive list, issues the ACMV has worked on in the past - and in several cases currently works on - include:

  • Traffic and other Visitor-Serving Problems

  • Community Plans and Stewardship of Village Character

  • Highway One Maintenance

  • Future Threats from Sea Level Rise

  • Marin County's Local Coastal Program

  • Dark Skies Initiative

  • West Marin Visioning Plan (specific Plan issues may be village-by-village)

  • Alerting Village Organizations about Upcoming County-wide Public Engagement
